Requirements
NyXGridEncode runs on Windows 11 (64-bit). The runtime is included, so nothing else needs to be installed. The external tools used for encoding are downloaded from their publishers the first time.
System requirements
Product overview
| Packages | An installer and a ZIP package. Both contain the same files. |
|---|---|
| Runtime | Included. You do not need to install .NET or any other runtime. |
| External tools | Not bundled. FFmpeg is required. Add NVEncC, QSVEncC or VCEEncC to encode on a GPU, and libVLC to use the Adjust window. Download them with the installer option or from "Tools > External Tools" in the application. |
| Modes | Four modes: Standalone, which encodes on one PC, and Controller + Encoder, Controller only and Agent for distributed encoding. |
| Service | Can be registered as a Windows service. The service starts automatically with Windows and keeps encoding after you close the application window. |
Supported OS
| OS | Windows 11 |
|---|---|
| Architecture | x64 (64-bit) |
| Installation | Installing with the installer requires administrator rights. For the ZIP package, place the extracted folder anywhere you like. |
Linux and macOS versions are not available.
Hardware
| CPU | An x64 (64-bit) CPU. On a PC without a GPU, encoding runs on the CPU. You can set the number of threads for CPU encoding under Settings > Encoding. |
|---|---|
| GPU | Optional. If the PC has an NVIDIA GeForce, Intel Arc or Intel integrated graphics, or AMD Radeon GPU, encoding runs on the GPU. The number of GPUs you can use at the same time depends on your edition. |
| Disk space | The application files take about 70 MB. With every external tool downloaded, the tools take about 1.1 GB after extraction. You also need free space for output files and temporary encoding files. When the output folder has less than 5 GB free, no new conversion starts. |
Encoding time depends on CPU and GPU performance. Run the benchmark under Settings > Benchmark to find the recommended number of parallel jobs for this PC.

Ports
Scroll horizontally to see the rest of the table
| Purpose | Port | Protocol | Direction | When needed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Distributed encoding (job assignment, status reports, file transfer and queue status queries) | 5555 (default) | TCP | Inbound on the controller Outbound from agents | When you use distributed encoding. The port can be changed in Settings. |
| Shared folder access (Windows file sharing, SMB) | 445 | TCP | Inbound on the PC or NAS that hosts the share | When agents read and write shared folders directly |
| Wake-on-LAN wake requests | 9 | UDP | Outbound from the controller | When Wake-on-LAN is used (Pro edition and higher, with the PC running as a controller). Requests are sent to 255.255.255.255 and to the subnet broadcast address of each NIC on the controller PC. |
| Internet access (HTTPS) | 443 | TCP | Outbound | Downloading external tools, update checks, license checks, sending support requests and external notifications (LINE, Discord, Slack) |
| External notifications (webhook, email) | Port you specify | TCP (HTTP / HTTPS, SMTP) | Outbound | When a webhook or email is used for external notifications. Notifications are sent by a PC in Standalone mode or by the controller. For a webhook, NyXGridEncode connects to the URL you specify; for email, it connects to the port of the SMTP server you specify (STARTTLS or SSL/TLS). |
On the controller PC, allow inbound TCP connections to the listening port (5555 by default, or the port you set). Agent PCs do not need any inbound rule. Wake-on-LAN is outbound only, so it needs no inbound rule. The network equipment between the controller and the agents must pass broadcasts to UDP port 9.
Internet destinations
Scroll horizontally to see the rest of the table
| Purpose | Destination | When |
|---|---|---|
| Downloading external tools and checking for new versions | github.comapi.github.comapi.nuget.org | When you start a download, when you open the External Tools window, and at startup and every 24 hours afterwards (can be turned off in Settings; not checked while running as an agent) |
| Checking for NyXGridEncode updates | nyx.infocloset.jp | At startup and every 24 hours afterwards (can be turned off in Settings). When you select "Update Now", the installer is also downloaded. |
| License checks | Our servers (*.infocloset.jp) | When you register a license key, and at startup and once a day afterwards (only when a license key is registered) |
| External notifications (Pro edition and higher; sent by a PC in Standalone mode or by the controller) | api.line.mediscord.comhooks.slack.comThe webhook URL and SMTP server you specify | When a selected event occurs, and when you click "Send Test" |
| Sending support requests | Our servers (*.infocloset.jp) | Only when you send a request from Help > Support |
If your firewall restricts outbound connections, allow connections to the destinations in the table (the URL you specify for a webhook, the SMTP server and port you specify for email, and HTTPS on port 443 for the others). Downloads from GitHub are redirected to GitHub's delivery hosts (*.githubusercontent.com), so allow these hosts as well.
What each setup needs
| Single PC | No distributed encoding traffic. The internet connection is used to download external tools, check for updates and check the license. Encoding itself works offline. |
|---|---|
| Distributed encoding across PCs on the same LAN | Allow inbound connections to the listening port (5555 by default) on the controller. To use Wake-on-LAN, place the agents on the same subnet as the controller. On each agent, enter the controller's PC name or IP address, the port and the auth token. Run the same version of NyXGridEncode on the controller and the agents. The controller needs a license that allows agents; agent PCs do not need a license. |
| PCs without internet access | Download the external tools from their publishers on another PC, then place them in the tools folder as described under "Placing external tools manually" in readme-en.txt. A licensed PC that has not reached the license server for 14 days runs within the free limits until it connects again. Encoding does not stop. |
PCs verify each other with the auth token, but the traffic is not encrypted. Keep it on the same LAN and do not route it over the internet. When files are transferred, their size and the network speed affect processing time. Use File Transfer Benchmark under Settings > Benchmark to estimate the transfer time.
