Distributed encodingcuts conversion time
With folder watch, large batches of videos placed in a watched folder are converted automatically, whatever their format or length.
You do not need to check the screen while jobs are running. NyXGridEncode keeps working unattended until every job is complete.
Product overview
This video, about 45 seconds long, shows the whole process: adding files, distributed encoding, folder watch and the completion of all jobs.
From a single PC to distributed encoding and always-on operation, scaled to your workload
Basic encoding
Runs in the same single-GPU setup as typical encoding software.
Multi-GPU
Encodes on multiple installed GPUs at the same time.
* Supports mixed NVIDIA, AMD and Intel configurations
Multi-job
Assigns several jobs to each GPU and encodes them in parallel.
Folder watch
When a video is placed in a watched folder, it is encoded automatically with the preset assigned to that folder.
A distributed encoding cluster across several PCs
Controller
- By default, assigns jobs based on each agent's job status and processing capacity (its performance ratio), so that all jobs finish as early as possible
- Automates the whole process from input to output when combined with folder watch
- Reclaims a job and assigns it again if its agent stops responding for a set period during encoding
- Lets you choose in the settings whether the controller also encodes
- Wakes disconnected agent PCs with Wake-on-LAN, either manually or automatically when encoding starts
Agent
- Encodes the jobs received from the controller and writes the output files to the specified folder
- Video files are read and written in place when the agent can reach a shared folder; otherwise they are transferred directly between the agent and the controller
Always-on operation as a Windows service
NyXGridEncode can be registered as a Windows service. It starts automatically with Windows and keeps encoding even when no one is signed in or the window is closed.
Share the watched folder on the PC running the service, and other PCs can start a conversion just by copying a video into it.
Run the controller as a service and it accepts agent connections regardless of whether anyone is signed in or the window is open.
If the service exits unexpectedly, it restarts automatically after a set period. Depending on the settings, processing resumes from the unfinished jobs after the restart.
Built-in file split, frame split and CPU fallback
File split
Splits a single video along the time axis and encodes the segments in several processes at once. Available when enabled in the settings. You can choose to split only when no jobs are waiting and a parallel slot is free, or to always split.
* GPU jobs only. Jobs with trimming or burned-in subtitles are not split
Frame split
Splits each frame into strips and processes them on several video engines at once. You can choose in the settings whether to use it.
* NVIDIA with HEVC or AV1 only
CPU fallback
Jobs with settings the GPU does not support, and jobs that fail on the GPU, are processed on the CPU automatically.
* Unsupported codecs, resolutions above the limit and similar cases
Performance
* Measured on 3 PCs (RTX 4080 Laptop + Intel UHD 770 / RTX 4060 Laptop + Intel UHD 770 / Intel UHD 710) converting 14 videos to HEVC (1080p / 4 Mbps) + AAC (192 kbps).
* Measured in our own environment. Encoding speed varies with the source video and the conversion settings, so equivalent performance is not guaranteed.
Supported formats
Accepts the major video formats as input and outputs to a range of containers and codecs to suit different purposes.
Input files
* Supports 44 file extensions
Output files
* Supports 9 video formats and 12 audio formats (audio can also use Stream Copy)
